Vocational education and training

Auburn Girls High School actively promotes the delivery of Vocational Education and Training (VET) frameworks and offers arrange of opportunities to students from Year 10 – Year 12.

These include VET Frameworks delivered within the school to years 11 and 12 students. These courses enable students to work towards achieving a Certificate II in their chosen field as well as offering the opportunity to use the course towards an ATAR.

Frameworks currently offered are:

  • Business Services
  • Hospitality (Food and Beverage)
  • Hospitality (Kitchen Operation)
  • Information Digital Technologies
  • Retail
  • Sports Coaching.

Auburn Girls High School also have access to TVET out of school. Courses include:

  • Hairdressing and Beauty – Granville TAFE.
  • Certificate in Health Care – Concord Hospital.

Year 10 have the opportunity of rotating through a range of TAFE ‘Work Ready’ skills to assist their transition from school to work.

Business services

This course is for students who wish to work in clerical and administrative occupations.

Students competent in this course will receive a Certificate II in Business (BSB20115). Students who are assessed as partial competency receive a Statement of Attainment showing their partial completion of Certificate II (BSB20115).

Hospitality

This course will provide students with underpinning skills and knowledge related to functional areas within the hospitality industry including hygiene and health and safety.

This course is designed to reflect the role of hospitality employees who perform a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context.

In 2016 Auburn Girls opened our very own Trade Skills Centre providing students with access to a commercial kitchen to practice their course competencies in!

Students competent in this course will receive a Certificate II in either Hospitality (Kitchen Operation SIT20312) OR Hospitality (Food & Beverage SIT20213).

  • Food and beverage assistant
  • Chef

Information technology

Information Technology (IT) is a rapidly evolving industry. It receives attention from governments, other industries and the community.

The IT VET Framework is designed to provide students with appropriate learning opportunities that will enable them to acquire a range of technical, personal and interpersonal skills and knowledge related to the support and management of information technology.

Students competent in this course will receive a Certificate II in Information Technology (ICA20105).

Possible job opportunities include:

  • Office assistant

Retail

This course will provide students with skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of basic retail knowledge and practical skills. Work placement for this course includes practical experience in supermarkets, department stores, fast food outlets etc.

Students competent in this course will receive a Certificate II in Retail (SIIR20207).

Possible Job opportunities include:

  • Sales assistant
  • Customer service representative
  • Crew member
  • Checkout operator

Sports coaching

This course is growing in popularity for any student who has interest in sport or employment in the sporting industry. It provides skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in assisting coaches in planning and implementing instruction in a range of sports.

Auburn Girls focuses on two elective sports, these are:

  • Athletics
  • Basketball

Students competent in this course will receive a Certificate II in Sports Coaching (SIS20510).
