Careers
Career development programs at Auburn Girls High School provide opportunities for our students to develop self-awareness in relation to career planning, find relevant information, make occupational and study decisions and develop an understanding of the world of work.
The Careers Adviser liaises with a range of Sydney based universities, TAFE and other vocational education and training providers to create opportunities for students to attend campus visits, market days or to participate in school-based workshops. These assist students to gain a greater understanding of the benefits of further education and identify pathways available.
All 10 students are timetabled for one Careers class per fortnight. Students participate in a range of lessons including:
- exploring personal strengths and employability skills
- developing effective resumes
- investigating the world of work through the Real Game
- creating digital Career Development Plans
- linking senior subject selection to future career plans
- participation in work experience at the end of year 10
Year 11 and 12 students can access support one on one or in small groups to further explore their career interests and link their learning to future career transitions. The Careers office, located in the school library, has an open-door policy – students are encouraged to drop in for a chat or make an appointment for an extended interview. Parents are also welcome to contact the Careers Adviser by phoning the front office to make an appointment. Our Careers Website (https://auburngirls.careertools.com.au/) provides a range of resources, including university guides, industry insights, and employment preparation tools.
Students in Years 10, 11, and 12 can also join our Careers Google Classroom, where they receive weekly updates on opportunities, events, and resources to help them make informed decisions about their future.
Additionally, senior students are invited to attend recess seminars, where guest speakers from universities and industries share the latest information on study options, career pathways, and emerging job trends.
Auburn Girls High School subscribes to the Job Jump website. This provides a wealth of information for students and parents on career planning, training opportunities, university course information, access to apprenticeships and traineeships and much more.
