Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Years 9-10 Board of Studies elective Courses include:

  • Physical Activity and Sports Studies
  • Dance

Years 11-12 Courses include:

  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (ATAR Course)
  • Community and Family Studies (ATAR Course)
  • Dance (ATAR Course)
  • Sports Coaching (VET Board Endorsed Course)
  • Sports, Lifestyle and Recreation (Non- ATAR Course)

The PD/H/PE Faculty are enthusiastic about student participation and offer a range of extra-curricular activities to cater for our students’ needs. These include:

  • Granville’s “Our School Spectacular”
  • Swim School (Year 7)
  • Duke of Edinburgh
  • Inter-school Sports Gala Days
  • Knock out competitions
  • Gym, Fitness and Dance groups

Tuesday Sport is a compulsory event for years 8 – 11 and the PD/H/PE department offer a range of sport to choose from at a school and grade sport level including:

  • Touch Football
  • Oz Tag
  • Basketball
  • Netball
  • Volleyball
  • Soccer
  • AFL
