BYOD Policy
Requirements for schools that allow students to use personal mobile electronic devices at school, with the capability of connecting to the department’s wi-fi network.
The department’s policies, resources and guidance materials, relating to the use of mobile digital devices including smartphones in schools, will be reviewed in light of the findings and recommendations made in a recent independent review. We note the NSW Government’s decision of 13 December 2018 to restrict the use of mobile digital devices in NSW public primary schools. This restriction will take place during 2019 (not from 1 January 2019) and departmental policies and guidance material will be updated prior to any implementation of this restriction. Policies, resources and guidance material for secondary schools will also be updated and developed as necessary. Current policies remain in force.
