NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
Special Religious Education (SRE) & Study Skills
Special Religious Education (SRE) is education in the beliefs and practices of religious persuasion. It is delivered by authorised representatives of approved religious groups to students who have nominated that religion. SRE falls under the Education Act 1990, Section 32, government schools allow time for special religious education.
Auburn Girls High School (AGHS) offers SRE on alternate Fridays:
- Years 7 & 8 - 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm, Semester 1 (Terms 1 & 2)
- Years 9 & 10 - 12:30 pm -1:30 pm, Semester 2 (Terms 3 & 4).
SRE Option
Students who choose SRE can enrol into one of the following options:
- Combined Islamic SRE classes: Tutors are provided by the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) and Islamic Council, NSW (ICNSW).
- Combined Christian SRE: Tutors are provided by The Anglican Diocese of Sydney the Auburn Anglican Church.
Non-SRE
Students who do not enrol into an SRE option attend alternate classes. These classes include meaningful learning activities such as effective study habits, time management skills, and revision strategies.
Instructions to enrol/change SRE options
- Parents/Guardians can enrol their child into one of the SRE options by using the Online Enrolment System (OES) with the Department. To access this, click here then click Get Started.
- Students not enroled in SRE default to Study Skills
- Subsequent changes to your child's SRE or Study Skills enrolment require parents/guardians to complete a form from Student Services.
