Inspire – High potential and gifted education
Auburn Girls High School (AGHS) is a partially selective high school that offer Selective and Enrichment classes in years 7-10.
HPGE opportunities continue in Year 11 and 12 where HPGE students can access a range of HSC courses and extension programs that challenge and extend their learning. These include accelerated pathways in Science and Maths for students who have demonstrated consistent sophisticated understanding of courses well above their cohort’s level.
Staff at AGHS use evidence-informed strategies including enrichment, extension and acceleration programs to stretch student thinking, build confidence and strengthen learning habits.
Permanent staff have completed and engaged in:
- University of NSW Gerric- Gifted Education program
- NSW Department of Education Professional Learning initiatives, and
- HPGE network meetings
The HPGE Professional Committee work with staff to ensure systems, processes and programs are current, inclusive and effective. Systems and processes include:
- incorporating effective teaching strategies i.e. enrichment, extension in senior courses and acceleration
- establishing selective and enrichment classes that offers additional robust and engaging learning challenges
- developing partnerships with universities and business that offer students catalyst opportunities to explore their strengths
- offering tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- accessing a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
